The Mets came from 3 runs down to defeat the Marlins 4 to 3, giving R.A. Dickey his 3rd win of the year.
Slick Hits:
- Dickey went 6 and 1/3 allowing 3 runs.
- Ruben Tejada had the go ahead RBI single, Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur added RBIs.
- KRod got into and put of trouble in the 9th, while giving Mets fans reason to worry.
The Mets look to continue their strong play at home today when Jon Neise takes on Nate Robertson in todays matchup.

Marlins @ Mets Weekend Series Pitching Matchup
The Mets are back home following a disappointing road trip to Milwaukee and San Diego. The Home Stand starts with a weekend series vs. the Florida Marlins on Friday night. Here is a look at the pitching match-ups for the weekend:
Friday: RHP R.A. Dickey (2-0, 2.84 era) vs. RHP Anibal Sanchez (5-2, 2.89 era), 7:10 p.m. ET
Saturday: LHP Jon Niese (1-2, 4.79 era) vs. LHP Nate Robertson (4-4, 4.30 era), 4:10 p.m. ET
Sunday: LHP Hisanori Takahashi (4-2, 3.21 era) vs. RHP Ricky Nolasco (5-4, 4.57 era), 1:10 p.m. ET
To see a full preview of the series, check out Adam Rubin's blog on ESPN New York here
Prediction - Although they are at home, I think this will be a tough series for the Mets considering the pitching match-ups. Even though they miss Josh Johnson, the Mets are throwing the back end of their rotation this weekend. Having said that, Dickey should get the young Marlins to 'fish' for his knuckleball and the offense should score enough against Robertson to overcome Niese's first start back from the DL. Mets win the series 2-1.

I feel bad today (for Johan, Joyce, and Galarraga)
What a day following an incredible sports night. I came away from the night feeling bad for 3 people in particular:
- Armando Galarraga pitches a 28 out perfect game, but doesn't even get credit for a 27 out perfect game. Doesn't make sense does it? A lot of people, including some politicians in Congress, think that Bud Selig should overturn the official game. Personally, I do not. It sets a precedent that should not be set. Changing the record books. If you want to install a new version of instant replay - fine. But don't change things after the game is over. Public perception will state that it was a perfect game and Galarraga comes off looking like a hero for his great attitude about the situation. Still can't help but feel bad for it not being 'official'.
- Jimmy Joyce has been an MLB umpire for 22 years. Last night will haunt him forever. His family is being harassed and he will be hearing boos every time he returns to Detroit. He made a mistake, but owned up to it. He even took abuse from the Tigers at the end of the game. to have the guts to make that call, shows just how much this man thought he saw the play as he did.
- Johan Santana has now pitched 2 games (15 innings) and not allowed a run. He is getting no run support. AND, when he leaves the game with a lead, the Mets find a way to earn him a No Decision. He has to be frustrated. HAS TO BE! I'm feel bad and frustrated for him. Although, his paychecks probably make it a little less painful for him.

Post Game Wrap up - Mets lose 5-1
At about the 8th inning I started to get the feeling that; I had seen this movie before.....and I knew the ending.....and it wasn't going to be a good one. The Mets were 1 strike away from winning back to back road games for the 1st time in almost a year. Then K-Rod gave up an RBI single to David Eckstein.
Johan Santana did not have his 'good stuff' tonight, but he was effective enough to battle through 7 shutout innings. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 2 starts (15 innings). Despite his 0.00 ERA in these last 2 games, he has nothing to show for it. In fact, the Mets have lost both games. He must be ready to pull his hair out at this point.
Slick Hits:
- Santana battled through 7 scoreless innings, throwing 123 pitches
- Jeff Fancoeur had the only RBI for the Mets
- Jason Bay had 1/2 of the Mets hits tonight (3)
- K-Rod came on for a 4 out save, but blew the save on a 2 out, 2 strike single by David Eckstein
- Valdes came in and looked terrible again, loading the bases and giving up the game ending Grand Slam to Adrian Gonzalez.
The Mets have tomorrow off, then open a home stand against the Florida Marlins Friday night at Citi Field. If they want to stay in the race, and are going to continue to play poorly on the road, the Mets have to continue their dominance at Citi.
On a side note, as bad of a loss as this was, no Mets fan can feel as bad as Jimmy Joyce tonight. For those of you that don't know, Joyce blew a call at 1st base with a perfect game on the line. Expect a lot of talk tomorrow about expanding instant replay in MLB tomorrow.

Pre Game - Mets @ Padres 6:35pm - 6/2/10
The Mets look to win the rubber game of their 3 game series with the Padres. If the first 2 games are any indication, we have no idea what's going to happen in this one. The Padres took the first game of the series 18-6, with the Mets taking the 2nd game 4-2. The Mets pitching dictated each games result. On Monday, the Mets pitching was terrible. Last night, Pelfrey delivered what you would expect from a 'Stopper'.
Tonight the Mets send their Ace to the hill, Johan Santana, looking to wrap up the road trip with a victory. The Mets have not won back to back road games since July, 2009. You read that right, almost a year ago.
Here is tonight's Metropolitans Lineup:
Reyes - SS
Pagan - CF
Bay - LF
Davis - 1B
Wright - 3B
Francoeur - RF
Cora - 2B
Blanco - C
Santana - P

Does anyone want to win the NL East?!
The NL East is arguably the 2nd best division in MLB (behind the AL East of course). With the Phillies faltering of late, it has opened the door for the Braves to take a 1.5 game lead on June 2nd. Let's be honest, this means nothing. It's not September or October yet. Here's a Scouting Report for the NL East of what to expect for the months ahead:
Atlanta Braves
The Braves are possibly the hottest team in baseball. They had a great May and have brought that momentum into June, winning the first 2 games vs. the Phillies. The Braves will probably look to add a quality bat before the trade deadline. It's not a question of if, but when will their hot streak end. The key for them will be to stabalize after their streak is over.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies can't hit lately. Maybe it's J-Roll missing. Maybe it's just bad timing that all of their big bats are slumping at the same time. Who knows? Outside of Doc Halladay's perfect game, they have been awful for a week and a half. Look for the Phillies to come out of thier funk and start racking up wins soon. If not, they may look to not only add depth to their rotation, but also to their lineup (especially if Rollins is out for any extended period of time)
Florida Marlins
Can you name one of the 2 teams in the NL East with a winning record against the rest of the division? One of them is the Marlins. This pesky team is 13-9 vs. the rest of the NL East. I don't expect them to stay close to the top of the standings for long. But the longer they stay, the more dangerous this young group is. Especially if they can add a big bat.
Washington Nationals
The Nationals are the other team with a winning record vs. the rest of the division, going 12-11. The Nats are a group that is playing beyond expectations and gaining confidence. With their rookie phenom, Stephen Strasburg set to join the rotation, they could be in the wild card hunt for a while. Today a report surfaced that Roy Oswalt might wave his no trade to play for the Nats. That could be the type of deal that makes the once unthinkable possible. The Nats in the playoffs?!!
New York Mets
The Mets are the definition of a .500 team. Look up .500 team in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Jerry Manuel's mug, smiling away. They win at home (19-9), but they can't win on the road (8-17). They win 5 of 6, then lose 5 of 7. It's a rollercoaster ride that all Mets fans know is coming. But we keep watching, and keep cheering. Help is apparently on the way, however. Carlos Beltran is running at 80% and could be back with the team by the end of June. He will add depth to the lineup and allow for Pagan and Fancoeur to platoon a bit in RF. If the Mets get a health Beltran AND make a deal for a solid #3 starter, they will be in the wildcard hunt and play meaningful games in September.

Post Game Wrap up - Mets Win 4-2!!
Last night the Mets won an important road game behind a strong pitching performance by Mike Pelfrey (8-1). Big Pelf went 8 innings, allowing just one run and had 8 strikeouts. Pelfrey looked incredible, overmatching the Padres hitters. Pelfrey is the Mets 'Stopper', as the Mets are 6-0 following a loss when Pelfrey starts.
Slick Hits:
- Pelfrey was dominant and seems to be gaining confidence with each outing
- David Wright started the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st
- Wright later added a solo HR to left center
- Ike Davis hit a 2-run HR in the 7th
- Francisco Rodriguez came on for the 9th and earned his 10th save of the year, despite giving up 1 run. He may make it interesting, but he's still getting the job done!
Up next, the Mets look to win the rubber game at 6:35pm with Johan Santana LHP (4-2, 3.03 ERA) vs. Clayton Richard LHP (4-3, 3.00 ERA)

Beltran could be back soon?
8:40 EST - Update
Today, Jerry Manuel also confirmed that Carlos Beltran could begin taking part in minor league games within a week. He will likely start out in a DH role, then slowly progress to playing the field for a complete game. For the full ESPN New York story, click here
Original Post:
According to Craig Carton of WFAN, Beltran said he is currently running at about 80% and hopes to begin playing in extended spring training games this week.
http://www.metsblog.com/2010/06/01/news-beltran-running-at-80-percent/
IF true, this is good news. I could not make that IF big enough. Beltran adds depth to a line-up that is erratic to say the least. He could also allow for a platoon in RF, with Pagan and Francoeur. Bottom Line - I'll believe it when I see #15 at Citi Field.

Mets need the next 2 in San Diego
I'm by no means a pessimist when it comes to the New York Mets. However, after taking 2 of 3 from the Bronx Bombers, Shut-Out Sweeping the hated Phillies, the Mets cannot afford a 2-4 road trip. They just can't. It's that simple.
With their best 2 pitchers going tonight and tomorrow night, the Mets must even this road trip and come home winning 2 straight. A 3-3 road trip is not great, but not devastating either. This team plays terrible on the road right now. Petco Park in San Diego is probably the closest thing the Mets have to feeling like home. It's a huge ballpark, a pitchers park. If the Mets can take these next 2 in San Diego, it will legitimize their last home stand. If they end up going 2-4 on this trip or worse, 1-5, their great homestand was for nothing. The Phillies may be struggling, but the Braves are possibly the hottest team in Baseball. The Mets must keep above .500 and start playing well away from Citi Field.

Post Game Wrap Up - Mets Lose 18-6
For those of you that were patient enough to stay up until about 1am this morning, you witnessed a bad pitching exhibition by the Mets. Takahashi started, going only 4 innings, allowing 6 runs. The bullpen took care of the rest. For a full box score, click here . Early on the Mets were able to battle back, but after the 5th and 6th innings, the game was out of control.
Tonight at 10:05, the Mets continue their series with the Padres with Big Pelf (7-1, 2.54 era) vs. Wade LeBlanc (2-3, 3.74era)

Mets @ Padres - 10:05 PM
The Mets are in San Diego tonight, and I know what a lot of your are thinking. A 1005 start on Memorial Day?!? I've been in the sun all weekend and need to get up early for work tomorrow....Tough, MLB isn't cooperating.
The Mets are in San Diego to take on the NL West leading (I can't believe it either) Padres. Hisanori Takahashi (LHP) takes on Kevin Correia (RHP). Tonight's Mets Lineup, looks awfully familiar: 1. Reyes SS, 2. Cora 2B, 3. Bay LF, 4. Davis 1B, 5. Wright 3B, 6. Pagan CF, 7. Barajas C, 8. Francoeur RF, Takahashi P.
