Well, the Mets started their 6 game home stand with a bang. The Mets throttled the Tigers tonight by a score of 14-6. The Mets got on the board early with RBIs by Angel Pagan (triple) and David Wright (sac fly). Jonathon Niese started the game for the Mets and did not allow a hit for the first three innings of work. The game had a 58 minute rain delay in the 3rd inning, which led to Justin Verlander being pulled from the game. His line for the night....not good, going 2+ innings and being charged with 5 earned runs. Niese would come out for the 4th and 5th innings, but struggled mightily.
Slick Hits
The Mets tired out the official scorer tonight:
- Jose Reyes was 3 for 6 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
- Angel Pagan went 4 for 6 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He was a homer shy of the cycle, as Gary Cohen repeated about 27 times during the broadcast.
- David Wright was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, while Jason Bay added 2 RBIs.
- Ike Davis went 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs.
- Every starting position player for the Metropolitan had at least 1 RBI except for Rod Barajas.
- Niese was a different pitcher after the rain delay, allowing 6 runs total over 4.2 innings.
This game was a great way to start the home stand. I would have liked to have seen Niese make it through the 5th to get the victory, but he just had nothing following the rain delay. Between the rain delay and the Mets big inning, Niese went about 1.5 hours between throwing live pitches. I'll be at the game tomorrow night, be sure to keep an eye on twitter as I'll be tweeting throughout the game @citislickblog
